Porschia: [00:00:00] Today we are celebrating our 100th episode of the Career 101 podcast. To be honest, I am feeling a bit overwhelmed with thoughts, feelings, and emotions when it comes to getting to this point in the show. We have been producing this show for about two and a half years now, and the time has just flown by.

For those of you who have been with us since the beginning and you remember episode one, I want to thank [00:01:00] you for taking this ride with us. For those of you who found us along the way, I want to say thank you as well. You have probably seen and heard us grow when I started this show, I really envisioned it being a master resources, a library of sorts of information about your career growth, development and change.

Many of you know that I have been a professional coach for over a decade at this point and I just saw so many of the same patterns, challenges, struggles, and feelings that our clients had and I realized that I needed to address everything that was going on in a more comprehensive way than we had ever done before and that’s part of the reason why I We started the career one on one podcast.

It’s [00:02:00] also the reason why we started the Brave Bird Career Alliance membership, which is really an extension of the show. So for those of you who listen to the show and love it, and you want to go deeper with us, that is your opportunity. The Brave Bird Career Alliance is a place where we have all of the support resources and coaching that you could possibly need for your career success.

We have clients at different stages of their careers with different goals who are navigating their journeys with our support. So with all that in mind, I want to dive deeper into the transformative power of career coaching. Whether you’re striving to take your career to the next level. Pivoting to a new path or simply refining your leadership approach.

Career coaching can offer invaluable guidance. And this episode will [00:03:00] unpack the key aspects of career coaching and the insights it provides into a variety of areas. But first I want to touch on the question, what is career coaching? I’ve talked about it earlier on the podcast in previous episodes, but just to go over it again here, career coaching is a personalized process designed to help professionals and executives identify, pursue, and achieve their career goals.

It’s about more than just landing a job. It’s about aligning your career with your values, strengths, and aspirations. A career coach can serve as a guide, helping you to navigate challenges, clarify your vision, and build the tools you need to succeed. Think of them as a trusted advisor. Who helps you unlock your full potential.

I’m sure that many of, we have covered [00:04:00] a lot on this show so far. I have gone back and forth about what to talk about on this 100th episode. And I decided that talking about the 10 key insights you gain from career coaching would be a great way to recap. What we’ve covered so far. Let’s explore the 10 critical areas where career coaching can make a difference.

Number one, career planning, career coaching helps you chart a strategic path for your professional journey. Whether you’re planning short term goals. or envisioning a long term trajectory. A coach can assist in creating actionable steps to get there. They ensure your plan is both ambitious and realistic.

Be sure to check out episode 53, Career Planning 101. How to develop a career plan for more information. [00:05:00] Also episode 81 that I recorded with an amazing coach on career planning, one Oh two proactive career planning. That’s another one I would highly recommend. Number two, personal branding. Your personal brand is how you present yourself to the world.

A career coach helps you articulate your unique value preposition, refine your online presence, and position yourself as a thought leader in your industry. Check out episode six, personal branding 101. What is a personal brand? And episode 74, personal branding 102 on personal branding tips. You’ll find a ton of details there.

Number three, career development. Professional growth doesn’t stop once you land a job. This is one of the biggest myths I see. [00:06:00] Really intelligent professionals and executives believe this. They think, once I land the job, everything will be fine, but they’re forgetting that the first 90 days on the job are the most important 90 days that you will ever work.

So you have to set yourself up for success from the beginning. In fact, I had a whole coaching program that’s now a course in our Brave Bird Career Alliance about landing your new job and what you should be doing in the first 90 days to a year. Career coaches can guide you in identifying skills you need to develop.

Staying ahead of industry trends and preparing for new responsibilities or roles. For more information on this, you can check out episode 54, Career Development 101, Designing Your Career Development Plan, and episode [00:07:00] 83, Career Development 102. Taking ownership of your career. Number four is networking.

Networking isn’t just about who, it’s about who knows you. A coach can help you develop a networking strategy from expanding your LinkedIn connections to navigating industry events with confidence. I have interviewed some networking experts on the podcast. In episode 10, we talked about networking 101, how to network, And the top networking questions to ask in episode 52 on Networking 102 Networking for Career Success.

We dive even deeper into the importance of networking and how you can customize your approach. [00:08:00] Number five is confidence. And one of the most common areas I have seen people lacking in is having confidence. Also, I noticed that our episodes on confidence have been some of the most popular episodes on the podcast.

Career coaching equips you with tools to build self assurance and take bold steps in your career. Most people really love episode 50 on confidence 101 confidence at work, and also episode 69 [00:09:00] confidence 102 on building confidence. In both of those episodes, I talked to other coaches who specialize in confidence coaching.

Number six is mindset. Impostor syndrome. The fear of failure and self doubt can hold even the most capable professionals back. A positive and growth oriented mindset is essential for success. Coaches help shift your perspective from fixed to adaptive, empowering you to see challenges as opportunities for growth.

Not too long ago on the show, we had a whole mindset series. So check out episodes 77 through 79, where we talk about having a beginner’s mindset Fear of failure and overcoming imposter syndrome. Number seven is personality. Understanding your personality [00:10:00] type through tools like the Myers Briggs Type Indicator, DISC, or the CliftonStrengths assessment can offer profound insights into your leadership style, work preferences, communication, and interpersonal dynamics.

Career coaching helps you leverage your personality for success. In episode 90, I talk about personality 101, understanding your personality with the MBTI assessment. And in episode 91, I talk to you, a great career coach about strengths based assessments. For your career, number eight is mental health.

Balancing a demanding career with personal wellbeing is no small feat. Coaches provide strategies for managing stress, setting boundaries, and ensuring your career contributes to rather than detracts from your overall [00:11:00] happiness. In episodes, 85 and 86, I speak with mental health professionals and discuss topics like therapy and anxiety.

Burnout is another topic that we have covered in the past on the show. Number nine is leadership. Whether you’re stepping into your first leadership role. Or refining your executive presence. Career coaching can help you hone key skills like communication, decision making, and team building, which all impact your leadership.

Leadership is one of my favorite things to talk about, study and coach our clients on. We have a leadership series and a leadership development series on the show. I recommend that you check out episode 46. Leadership development 101, designing your leadership development plan as a starting point. Then you might want to check out [00:12:00] episodes 87 through 89, where I talk about leadership development skills and interview some executive coaches on leadership qualities and leadership styles.

And number 10 is entrepreneurship. I’d estimate that about 25 percent of our clients either have a business. Or they would like to have a business on the side of their day job. When thinking about your career, entrepreneurship can be an aspect that many people want to dive into. For those looking to start their own business, career coaching provides insights into market analysis, risk management, and building a strong entrepreneurial mindset.

A coach can be your sounding board as you navigate this exciting but challenging journey. For those of you who know my story, I have a heart in entrepreneurship. I started fly [00:13:00] high coaching at 25 years old and I have embraced the wild ride of entrepreneurship since then. Some episodes for you to check out on the show about entrepreneurship are episode three, turning your passion into a business.

Episode 23, having courage in business and episode 33, developing an entrepreneurial mindset. We have other shows on our podcast about entrepreneurship as part of the series as well. And I think that those are some of the best ones to give you a head start. All right. That was a lot that we’ve covered in these 100 episodes.

So now that I mentioned that I want to address. Why Career Coaching Matters for Executives and Professionals. Okay, career coaching is not just for people who are starting out in their careers. It’s an essential resource for seasoned [00:14:00] professionals and executives to face unique challenges from navigating complex workplace dynamics to making high stakes decisions.

A career coach offers a confidential space to explore these issues and develop tailored strategies. Additionally, in today’s fast evolving job market, staying adaptable and forward thinking is critical. A coach helps ensure that your skills, network, and mindset remain competitive. If you’re considering career coaching, here are some steps to take.

First, you should define your goals, identify the areas where you feel stuck or you want to grow. Now, this is something that we help our clients with. Your goals should be in alignment with your values and long term vision. Second, Research coaches. All right. And you want to look for [00:15:00] a coach with solid professional experience.

I generally recommend that they’ve been certified by multiple organizations and have a track record of success. For example, the executive coaches on our team and I all meet that criteria. Third, schedule a consultation, right? Many coaches offer initial sessions or consultations to discuss your needs and determine if you’re a good fit.

Members of our Brave Bird Career Alliance have short introduction calls with two of the coaches on our team, and then they get to select who they’d like to work with. Commit to the process. Career coaching requires active participation and a willingness to implement feedback. Coaching is a unique partnership that can help you move through resistance and obstacles that show up.

Career coaching isn’t just a service. It’s an investment in [00:16:00] yourself by addressing key aspects like career planning, personal branding, networking, and leadership. It provides the clarity, confidence, and tools you need to thrive. If you’re ready to take the next step in your professional journey, career coaching might just be the catalyst you’ve been looking for.
