The people in the Millennial Generation, ages 18-34, are a new breed.  They embrace technology, social media, and globalization.  Millennials tend to be progressive and forward thinking.  The Millennial Performance Institute works with organizations to attract, engage, and retain high-calibre millennial employees.  Many companies are interested in coaching young professionals, since Millennials will make up the majority of the workforce in the next five years.  Engaging young adults through workshops, seminars, coaching, and training can be helpful in improving productivity and performance.

Other generations have often described Millennials as impatient, entitled, and having a poor work ethic.  So it’s no surprise that there can be conflict between Millennials, Gen Xers, and Baby Boomers in the workplace.  Different values and ideas can clash when faced with projects and deadlines.  According to the Pew Research Center, there are three traits predominant among young adults in the Millennial Generation.  Let’s investigate the Millennial Mindset!

Confident

Millennial’s are very confident in their abilities and their intellect.  As a generation, they are on track to be the most educated in history.  This confidence gives them the motivation to take on challenges and believe they can solve them.  Care should be taken so this confidence doesn’t border on arrogance when working with others.  There is always room to learn and grow.

Connected

Deemed as being “always connected,” Millennials thoroughly embrace technology.  It is estimated that 75% of Millennials have created a profile on social media.  This desire to be connected can overshadow the importance of in-person, face-to-face communication.  Unplugging from technology and logging off of your computer, tablet, or mobile device can help clear your head and tap into some inspiration.

Open to Change

Change is definitely the name of the game with Millennials.  They can remember a world without social media and many other technological advancements but they thrive on how life can be made easier.  It is believed that President Obama received overwhelming support from the majority of Millennials during his first presidential campaign.  His platform of change and hope struck a cord with these progressive thinkers.

The mindset of Millennials is truly unique.  Coming of age in a world of new discoveries and advancements has lead to thoughts of confidence, connection, and openness to change.  Coaching young professionals can help with communication and conflict resolution between them and other generations.  Contact us  for a FREE Vision of Success Session if you would like to find out more about our coaching programs or how you can increase the productivity of Millennials in your organization.
