What comes up when you think about the beginning of a new year? Perhaps it’s fear, optimism, stress, or creation. These are all very natural thoughts to have when considering the unknown. Many people end one year thinking about all of the changes they want to make and form resolutions to achieve future goals. New years resolutions can be inspiring and motivating, but sometimes they can be daunting and overwhelming. The key is having a process to turn your resolutions into reality. Working with a life coach can help you transform your career and life to create the success you want.
When I work with my clients, we create a simple plan to help them achieve their goals. At the start of a new year, we can tap into the excitement of a new beginning while putting things in place to maintain results throughout the year. This is important because as time goes by it becomes easier to slip back into old routines that don’t support changes you want to make. Do you want to find a new career? Are you interested in making more money? Or do you want to live the lifestyle you’ve always dreamed about? Let’s take your goals from resolution to reality!
Reflect on the previous year
What did you accomplish last year? I challenge you to make a list of all of your accomplishments. Nothing is too small for inclusion. If you’d been wanting to clean out your closet and finally did it, that counts! Now, review your list. How does reading it make you feel? Finally, I want you to celebrate. Yes, CELEBRATE! Do something just for yourself. Go indulge in your favorite dessert or buy yourself a special gift. The point is to treat YOU and make yourself happy. Don’t get stuck in a cycle of waiting for other people or outside circumstances to make you feel joyful.
Imagine the success you want
From a seated or lying position, close your eyes. Take a few deep breaths and fully relax. Clear all thoughts from your mind. Imagine that you are in the future and have gotten exactly what you wanted. What do you look like? How do you feel now that you have attained your goal? What do you see? What can you touch? Taste? Smell? How has your life changed? Get very clear on all of the details in the moment.
Plan out how to get there
Decide on the first, specific step towards reaching your goal and DO IT. Don’t worry about everything being perfect or exactly as you imagined, just get moving. As you act purposefully, you will naturally review your progress, get feedback, and rework your plan. If you have total conviction in what you are doing, are focused with positive energy, this is a great start! Then, gather more information and be sure to highlight the attributes that make you special. After completing all of this, success is your only option.
The beginning of a new year can be the start to a new life, if you are serious about making a change. Having new years resolutions can help you get focused on specific goals you want to achieve. But it’s up to you to take consistent action! Through reflection, imagining your success, and creating a plan obtaining the results you want is inevitable. If you’d like support around this, I encourage you to consider working with a life coach.
